Businessman’s Death Confirmed in Bahia After Ambush Attack

The businessman was the victim of an ambush in Bahia and, unfortunately, did not survive. More details have emerged and continue to draw public attention.

The city of Paulo Afonso, in northern Bahia, woke up mourning and in shock after the confirmation of the death of businessman Eric Michel Lira da Silva, 39 years old, on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Owner of Mix Pack Embalagens, Eric did not survive the severe injuries caused by a shooting attack suffered four days earlier in an ambush that violently interrupted his work routine.

The case, which initially mobilized rescue teams and local security forces in a race against time, has now officially become a homicide investigation, reigniting discussions about the vulnerability of business owners and the boldness of urban crime in the region.

The crime took place on the night of Sunday, May 10, when the businessman was leaving his company’s warehouse, located at the intersection of Padre Lourenço and Grécia streets, in the city center.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Civil Police, Eric was leaving the commercial establishment when he was surprised by two men. Without any apparent chance to react or defend himself, one of the suspects fired a shot that struck the sensitive area between the victim’s head and neck.

The suspects fled on foot shortly afterward, taking advantage of the moment of shock and the quiet Sunday evening, which made immediate capture by officers from the 20th BPM more difficult.

Eric’s medical struggle included an interstate transfer in an attempt to save his life. Initially taken to Hospital Nair Alves de Souza in Paulo Afonso, he was later transferred to a hospital in Petrolina due to the extreme severity of the injury and the need for advanced neurosurgical care.

Despite nearly 96 hours of intensive medical efforts, his death was confirmed on Thursday. The body was sent for forensic examination, while the 1st Territorial Police Station of Paulo Afonso continues gathering testimonies and analyzing surveillance footage to identify those responsible.

So far, the motive behind the crime remains unclear, since nothing was stolen from the victim, weakening the hypothesis of a robbery resulting in death. Police are investigating whether the attack was motivated by personal issues, business disputes, or if it was a planned execution.

For Bahia’s business community, the loss of a young entrepreneur under such brutal circumstances has generated a feeling of insecurity that goes beyond the personal sphere, affecting the sense of safety among those operating businesses in central urban areas.

The 1st Territorial Police Station of Paulo Afonso continues investigating the case, with interviews and investigative actions being treated as a priority in order to identify the suspects and determine the true motive behind the crime.
